Fun Visit With Ms. Wells 5th Grade Class

I enjoyed visiting with Ms. Wells 5th Grade Class at the Waunakee Intermediate School on Thursday. Student Lexi Flesch invited me for a photo session and interview for their photojournalism magazine project. As you can see, most everyone was decked out in green for St. Patrick's Day. I even borrowed one of their hats to fit in with the crowd. Big thanks goes to the whole class for asking great questions and being totally fun to visit with. Lexi, I look forward to reading your article!

Informational Open House 2011 Klein Drive Improvement Project

This summer, the Village of Waunakee will be making street improvements to Klein Drive from Sixth Street to Sunset Lane. You are invited to attend an informational open house to discuss how these improvements may impact your home or business. The open houses will be:
  • For Business Owners: Tuesday, March 8th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Waunakee Village Hall, 500 W. Main Street
  • For Residents: Wednesday, March 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Waunakee Village Hall, 500 W. Main Street
The meetings will be open house format. Engineering staff will be available to discuss the project details and demands, and meet with you to help answer your questions and/or concerns.

The reconstruction of Klein Drive (from Sixth Street to Sunset lane) will include the following highlights:
  •  Replace the existing roadway base
  •  Resurface the asphalt roadway
  •  Replace some existing water main
  •  Replace some existing water laterals within Right-of-Way
  •  Repair existing sanitary sewer at Fifth Street
  •  Install some storm sewer on Klein Drive
  •  Replace some existing curb and gutter
  •  Replace some existing driveway aprons as needed
  •  Install new sidewalk in areas where none exists
  •  Installation of new street lighting
The total cost of the project will be paid for using the Village’s general tax levy in accordance with Village Ordinances and policies. We do not anticipate any additional cost to property owners for this project.

We anticipate that the reconstruction of Klein Drive should take approximately 8-12 weeks to complete, once the work has begun. The roadway should be open to traffic for most of the project; however we anticipate that portions of the roadway may be closed at times to accommodate the construction.

The project involves replacing the existing water main, but we will NOT be replacing the existing sewer or water services on your property. If you are considering an upgrade or are experiencing problems with your existing sanitary sewer or water services, we recommend that you contact Tim Herlitzka or Randy Dorn at Waunakee Utilities, (608) 849-8111 to discuss your options. Please note that permits to excavate in the street will not be allowed for 5 years after the new pavement has been placed.

We appreciate your cooperation in advance of this project. If you have any questions concerning the meeting or this project please contact Kevin Even, Village Engineer, or Jim Madden, Construction Manager, at (608) 850-8500.
