In-Person Absentee Voting at Village Hall

Wondering when in-person absentee voting will begin for the November election?

A recent court case decision limited the number of days the Village is able to be open for in-person absentee voting. In-person absentee voting at Village Hall (500 W Main Street) will begin on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 and end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020. Voting will take place during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.). No appointment is necessary to in-person absentee vote. Please note that due to COVID-19 and Dane County Public Health orders, we will also need to limit the number of people in our building at one time to ensure proper social distancing and safety.

Absentee Ballot Update

This week Village Staff and a group of Election Inspectors processed and mailed out over 4,500 absentee ballots to Waunakee voters who had an active absentee ballot on file! Thank you to the Election Inspectors and staff for working hard to get the ballots out in a timely and efficient manner! Over the next week, absentee ballots will start to arrive at the homes of those who had a request on file by September 16, 2020. As a reminder, if you receive an absentee ballot in the mail from the Village, the return envelope has the correct amount of postage included on it for your ballot to be successfully returned to the Village via the US Postal Service. Worried about returning your ballot in the mail? No problem, feel free to drop off your completed absentee ballot in the mailbox located outside of Village Hall (500 W Main Street). This mailbox will be checked regularly.

Do you still need to request an absentee ballot for November? The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Moving forward, Village Staff will continue to process new requests for absentee ballots as they are received. Please visit www.myvote.wi.gov to request an absentee ballot.

New Public Health Order Requires Face Coverings Effective July 13

Public Health Madison and Dane County today issued an emergency order that requires everyone age 5 or older to wear a face covering or mask when indoors and around people outside of their household.

Per the order, people must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth when in public, which includes in businesses, health care settings, waiting in line and on public transportation. The order also requires individuals to wear face coverings when in someone else's home.

Exceptions are made for certain activities such as eating at a restaurant, but during those activities, 6 feet distancing of individuals not from the same household or living unit is required at all times. Some people are also exempted if they have a physical, mental or developmental condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.

People may use a face mask, scarf, bandana or other types of face coverings. The county plans to provide cloth masks to those in need. More information on how to obtain free masks will be available on the Dane County website soon.

The new order is effective 8 a.m. Monday, July 13.

Village of Waunakee Recycling Usage & Frequency Survey

The Village's contract for residential refuse and recycling collection is up this year. One option that may be considered is moving from every-other-week recycling to every week. Please take a minute to answer this very brief survey to help us understand community satisfaction and needs.

The Village of Waunakee is seeking public input on current ideas, initiatives, and issues facing the Village using Polco, a Wisconsin-based civic participation technology platform. Polco helps Waunakee officials present questions and background information to citizens and generate organized input to inform local policy decisions.

Butterflies on Main

The Village of Waunakee’s annual Art on Main program rolls out once again with Butterflies on Main. The sixth iteration of Waunakee’s original public art project aims to build on the past success of projects like Barrels on Parade (2018) and Mutts on Main (2019) in developing the Village’s creative identity.

Presented in collaboration with Endres Mfg. Company and the Waunakee Area Chamber of Commerce, Butterflies on Main invites the community to create and submit artistic proposals. Chosen artists will be assigned a steel butterfly cutout to use as their canvas. Artists will also be provided with a $200 stipend, courtesy of the Waunakee Area Chamber of Commerce and Endres Mfg. Company Foundation. The finished butterflies will be on display mounted to light posts along Main Street from the first week of July until the weekend of Wauktoberfest. After the butterflies are removed from view, they will be auctioned off to the community at Wauktoberfest on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Proceeds will support future community projects through Create Waunakee and the Endres Mfg. Company Foundation.

Those interested in applying must currently live or work in the school district limits of the Village of Waunakee or be a graduate of Waunakee Community High School.

For more details on the project, timeline, and application requirements, visit the Village’s Butterflies on Main webpage or contact Kylie West, Executive Assistant at kwest@waunakee.com or 608-850-2182. http://www.waunakee.com/butterfliesonmain

Please enjoy these images from the local artists who will be featured at this upcoming event. All of these artists were chosen for this show because they donated works of art to help raise funds for our new library. They are a talented group and we hope you enjoy this Online Art Show!
