Waunakee Community School District Planning Process Underway

The Waunakee Community School District is undertaking a Long-Range Facilities study to advise the School Board and community on school facilities decisions over the next 10 to 20 years.  I applaud the district for going to such lengths to get public input and participation. Earlier this week I participated in one of the public outreach meetings (see picture below of others who participated).
To help the district gauge community priorities, members of the public are invited to take a few minutes to complete this online survey:  CLICK HERE.

This survey is available until May 4th. Your input is very valuable for the District going forward.

Beware of Telephone Scams

The Dane County Sheriff's Office wants to remind citizens of potential telephone scams targeting the elderly.

Earlier today (04/24/2012), a Sheriff's deputy responded to the home of an 87-year-old fraud victim in the town of Westport.  She had been contacted by telephone by a person claiming to be helping her grandson, who was in trouble and needed cash.  The caller then had the woman send $3900 to an overseas address.

The ploy of claiming that a friend or family member is in trouble and needs cash is a common tactic used by these scammers and they generally target the elderly.  Please talk to anyone that you feel could potentially be a victim of such a scam and caution them to check with family or law enforcement before responding to any such claims.

The Waunakee Village Center is hosting a genealogy class on Wednesday, April 25, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm.

This class will be presented by certified Genealogist George Findlen, who will argue that by digging into the available records for explanations as to why our ancestors did what they did we come to understand our ancestors as three-dimensional humans with hopes and fears, successes and bitter disappointments, not two-dimensional wire tree on which we hang dates and places devoid of any meaning.

Register today at www.waunakee.com/villagecenter or call the Village Center at (608) 850-5992.
