RenewAire LLC and Village of Waunakee Announce Development

RenewAire LLC, currently located at 4510 Helgesen Drive in Madison, has announced plans to relocate to the Village of Waunakee. After a comprehensive 16 month search process, RenewAire is purchasing a property and building in the Waunakee Business Park at 201 Raemisch Road. The 111,700 square foot facility was formerly operated as a distribution and office facility by Owens and Minor, who closed and laid off 70 employees in September of 2013. The building has been vacant since that time.

RenewAire manufactures Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) products for a wide range of residential and commercial applications. The company was founded in 1978 with a mission to make a positive difference for the planet by reducing the need for fossil fuels. ERVs supply the necessary fresh air required for a healthy indoor environment by reclaiming the energy from exhaust air as one of the final necessary steps in energy efficient building design. RenewAire has enjoyed many years of rapid growth and today is one of the leading manufacturers of ERVs in North America. They have operated from their current Helgesen Drive facility since 2005. With 62 current employees, RenewAire plans to undertake a major building remodel and begin doing business in the Waunakee facility by January of 2017 with 70 employees. According to their mission, the upgraded facility will be LEED certified and will showcase many environmentally sustainable features. Strategic growth plans over the next 10 years include physical expansion to the facility and potential employment growth to more than 200 employees.

Chuck Gates, President of RenewAire, is excited about the opportunities that this move will have for RenewAire’s growth potential. According to Gates, “Our industry is poised for long term growth and RenewAire is uniquely positioned to continue to lead the market. The time is right for us to invest in infrastructure to facilitate our continued growth and success. RenewAire is best able to serve our customers’ needs with local Quick Response Manufacturing and is committed to creating office and manufacturing jobs in the community.” Gates has also been pleased with the way in which Waunakee’s Village officials have responded to their needs. “Within days of our initial contact with the Village, they were out visiting us in person and touring our current space. They’ve been responsive to our needs and have made the process to this point very simple and straight forward. I already believe that we’ve made the right choice to put down new roots in Waunakee,” says Gates.

Village President Chris Zellner looks forward to welcoming RenewAire and its employees to the Village. "Based on my early impressions of RenewAire's operations and management, I am confident that they will be pleased with relocating here in Waunakee," says Zellner. "Our community is fortunate to be enjoying growth in all areas - residential, retail and industrial. Over the last 10 years our efforts to revitalize Main Street and the downtown area have added a new and vibrant energy in our community. I see RenewAire as a new industrial partner that will fit right in with all of the other good things that are happening."

The Village of Waunakee is in the process of creating a new TIF District for this project. A development agreement will also be completed granting economic incentives for the relocation of RenewAire to Waunakee. RenewAire plans to close on the property by mid-March of 2016 and quickly begin building modifications in order to complete their move by January of 2017.

Values and Priority Survey

How we grow matters. Where and how we build and connect buildings, roads, and parks affects our economic opportunities, our well-being, and the natural environment. In short, growth matters to what we care about and value.

Planning for future growth and transportation needs will position the region for success. The first step is the Greater Madison Region Values and Priorities Survey. This 20-minute anonymous survey will tell us about your feelings concerning the quality of life here and priorities for the future.

Please click HERE to complete the Values and Priorities Survey.

A Greater Madison Vision, an initiative of the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission, will use the survey results to engage you and your neighbors in conversations about how we grow. Drawing on shared values, community members will help define growth options, and select the option that best matches regional values. The outcome will be a vision and strategy for growth in the Greater Madison Region that generates real improvements to issues we care about. For more information go to AGMV.vision.

The Madison Area Transportation Planning Board, an MPO (MATPB) will use the survey results as a foundation for development of the vision, goals, and priorities for the MATPB’s Regional Transportation Plan 2050. For more information, go to MadisonAreaRTP.org.

Please take the time to participate in this important survey to help us identify the shared values of people in the region.

Winter Warrior Snow Shoveling Program

The Village of Waunakee is pleased to introduce the Winter Warrior Snow Shoveling Program, through the SnowCrew website. The program is designed to facilitate neighbors helping neighbors, to assist our residents in locating volunteers in their neighbor-
hoods to shovel snow from their walkways, sidewalks and driveways.  The SnowCrew website
connects those needing assistance with volunteers willing to help.

Want to Help Out?

If you or your organization(s) are interested in helping your neighbors this winter, you are encouraged to visit the SnowCrew website (https://snowcrew.org/) and register. Residents who are unable to shovel their own property will also register on the SnowCrew website. When they request assistance, an icon will show up on a map of Waunakee allowing volunteers to locate those needing assistance in clearing snow. The website also allows volunteers to let other volunteers know where they are helping, avoiding any duplication.

Need Help?
If you need help shoveling your property this winter, please visit https://snowcrew.org/ and register.
Once registered, you can post an alert for help on the SnowCrew website. An icon will show up on a map of Waunakee identifying your location, indicating you need assistance. Volunteers who are registered to help will then have an opportunity to provide assistance in clearing snow.

Volunteers who are having trouble registering or residents without internet access may call 608-850-2830 and Village staff will assist with the registration process.

For more information, please contact Administrative Intern Ben John at
adminintern@waunakee.com or by telephone phone at 608-850-2830.

The Village is pleased to promote the SnowCrew system; however this system is independent of the Village. The Village cannot ensure success in using the system for either those needing help or those volunteering to help. As a reminder, it is the sole responsibility of each individual property owner to complete snow removal in accordance with Village ordinances.

Halloween Safety

Halloween Trick or Treating will be on Saturday, October 31
from 5-7 PM. Please drive extra cautious in the neighborhoods and watch out for pedestrians. The following are some safety tips for parents and children:
  • Teach your children how to properly cross a street. Only cross streets at crosswalks.
  • Help your child pick out or make a costume that has eye holes large enough for a good peripheral vision.
  • For greater visibility during dusk and darkness, decorate or trim costumes with reflective tape that will glow in the beam of a car's headlights. Bags or sacks should also be light colored or decorated with reflective tape. Reflective tape is usually available in hardware, bicycle, and sporting goods stores.
  • To easily see and be seen children should also carry flashlights or glow sticks.
  • Costumes should be short enough to prevent children from tripping and falling.
  • If your child is carrying a prop, make sure the tips are smooth and flexible enough to not cause injury if fallen on.
  • Know the route your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them.
  • The safest idea is to have an adult accompany kids. If you're not with the kids, be sure to set a time they will be home by. Make sure they know how important it is for them to be home on time.
  • Children should not enter homes or apartments unless they are accompanied by an adult.

Utility Scam

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has recently heard from a number of Wisconsin businesses who received threatening phone calls about their utility accounts.

Scammers falsely claiming to represent the local utility company are calling businesses or consumers and threatening them with disconnection of services unless immediate payment is made. If you receive a similar threatening call about your home or business utility account, hang up and do not engage the caller. Contact your local utility provider to inquire about the status of your account and to report the call.
Avoid being tricked in a utility scam by remembering these simple guidelines:
  • Utility companies will contact you by mail if your account is overdue. They may also call you if your services are at risk of being terminated, but will NEVER demand immediate payment over the phone.
  • If a caller demands a utility payment by prepaid debit card or wire transfer, it is a scam.
  • Scammers can manipulate your caller ID display to show the local utility company's name or number when they call.
If you are unsure of the status of your account, contact your service provider using the number listed on your recent gas or electric bill or visit the website to identify a customer service phone number.
