Village of Waunakee Tornado Siren Activation

During the late evening and early morning hours of June 16 and 17, 2014, a powerful line of severe storms rolled across southern Wisconsin and near the Village of Waunakee.

The National Weather Service tornado tracking system over the years has vastly improved their storm tracking technology system. New technology allows sirens to be activated individually rather than activating sirens across the entire county. This allows for more accuracy in the siren system. It is possible for some sirens within the Village to be activated due to the storms tracking by the National Weather Service while others may not have been activated. In addition to the siren system, residents are encouraged to stay up-to-date and alert regarding local weather conditions by monitoring local media broadcasts.
