Waunakee Furniture ETC, Dane Arts Mural Arts, and The Village of Waunakee are pleased to announce a community mural project. The new mural will be located on the west facing outside wall of Waunakee Furniture ETC and will be completed in 2017. The mural will highlight and show off the talents of area artists and beautify our community with high quality public art.

Community members are invited to be an important part of the process. Specifically, with the theme of the mural being "Old Waunakee Main Street at the Turn of the Last Century”, we are seeking historical photos featuring people and Main Street scenes that could be replicated in the mural design. Anyone interested in submitting photos for consideration may drop them off at Waunakee Furniture ETC, 121 W. Main Street, by December 30, 2016. Please include a note with whatever known details there are about the photo subject and content (including actual or estimated date if available), along with instructions on how to return the photo to its source.

Local artists, community members, and the Waunakee Area School District will also have an opportunity to be involved in the painting process. More details will be provided as progress is made on the design. Individuals, organizations and businesses in the community who may be interested in participating as a financial donor to help bring this project to life are encouraged to contact Village Administrator Todd Schmidt (contact info above).

Dane Arts Mural Arts (DAMA) is a public art program by Dane Arts that trains local artists to become community artists who use mural-making to beautify neighborhoods and make a difference in the lives of youth. DAMA empowers artists, neighborhoods and youth to become change agents, collaborating on projects which physically and socially improve communities. Since 2015 DAMA has completed numerous murals focused on under-resourced urban and rural communities throughout Dane County. Learn more at daneartsmuralarts.org.
