No Thru Traffic

As Main Street and Century Avenue get closer and closer to being finished, the DOT would like to remind citizens and visitors that there is still a NO THRU TRAFFIC restriction in place. This means that unless you are patronizing a Waunakee business or home in the reconstruction area, drivers are NOT ALLOWED to completely pass through construction zones from one end to another. The Waunakee Police Department has the authority to ticket drivers who violate this no thru traffic restriction. The Village of Waunakee and DOT would also like to remind citizens and visitors that even though some roads look “finished,” they in fact are still a work in progress. Keep in mind that as the number of cars driving in the roundabout and downtown area increases, the ability of workers to complete their job in a timely and safe manner decreases.  Please consider this when deciding which route to take to get to your destination.

We are glad to see that people are excited about driving on the new roads and observing the work in progress, but please keep in mind that we still have a few weeks left of construction. Please continue to use the posted local and regional detour routes for the remainder of this project. Construction is to be completed and roads reopened in mid-September. Waunakee directional signage from the interstate and surrounding highways will be restored upon project completion.

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Waunakee Village Hall
500 West Main Street

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, please make plans to stop in at the Village Hall to learn more! While you're enjoying your dessert and coffee, you'll have the chance to meet Don Spencer, local artist, and learn a bit about his passion.

Don fell in love with stained glass forty years ago when he lived in a neighborhood with older homes that all had a stained glass piece built in that could be seen from the sidewalk. Over the past twenty years, Don’s stained glass art has been inspired by his students, nature, photos, and paintings.

Check this out!

Construction crews from McGuire discovered this afternoon an underground "chamber" of sorts that is estimated to be 12 feet deep and 16 feet wide! The hole is empty, except for a small layer of water at the bottom. Nobody knows for sure what it was used for, but some have guessed that it could be a water well, fire safety unit, or storage cellar. Who knows?!

The chamber, which is located just outside ETC Furniture on Main St., will be filled with rock sometime later this week.

Main Street Closure Notice - South St. to Madison St.

Main St. excavation from South St. to Madison St. will begin tomorrow August 7th, so expect an increased amount of construction/large vehicle traffic in that area. Access will be maintained to businesses or homes in this area through either Water St. or Baker St.

Parking during the Main St. temporary closure should occur on side streets. All businesses and homes from South St. to Madison St. should place trash/recycling bins on the nearest side streets as well.

Businesses and homeowners requiring special access or with additional concerns during this time should contact the project leader, Jon Maxwell. (608) 963-4539

Construction crews from McGuire are likely to keep their phenomenal pace up as we head into a weekend full of nice weather. Once excavation crews have reached the west side of the railroad tracks on Main St., the plan is to pave from O'Malley up until the tracks as soon as possible.
