Election Update


The April 7th Spring Election and Presidential Preference Primary is occurring as scheduled. The Village of Waunakee strongly recommends that anyone planning to vote should request to have an absentee ballot mailed to them as soon as possible by visiting www.myvote.wi.gov. The deadline to register online to vote has been extended by federal court until March 30, 2020. Please visit www.myvote.wi.gov to register to vote. If you are unable to request an absentee ballot online or need to register to vote in-person, please call Village Hall at 608-850-8500 to make an appointment. Village Hall is open by appointment only for election purposes.

Special Residential Pick-Up Postponed

The Village of Waunakee Special Residential Spring Clean-Up originally scheduled for May 11, 2020 has been postponed until the fall of 2020. The Special Residential Clean-Up is your chance to clean out those closets, garages, basements, etc. to dispose of items that you no longer want or need (click here for a list of acceptable items). Once a new date is determined the Village will post this information on their website calendar and social media.

NOTE: Spring leaf pick up will still take place as scheduled beginning April 1, 2020. Brush will be collected on a weekly basis starting on April 6. Please be sure to keep leaves and brush separate from each other.

Voter Registration for the April 7, 2020 Election


The deadline to register to vote online or by mail was March 18, 2020.

At this time, to register to vote for the April 7, 2020 election, you must appear in-person at Village Hall or at your polling location on Election Day. The deadline to register in-person at Village Hall is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2020. After April 3rd, voters needing to register to vote will need to appear in-person at the polls on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. A reminder that proof of residency is needed to register to vote. The Vote Must Go On - April 7, 2020, Spring Election and Presidential Preference Vote

Requesting a Ballot by Mail
If you are concerned about appearing in person in the Clerk’s office for absentee voting or at the polls on Election Day due to the Coronavirus outbreak, you have the option of having your ballot mailed to your home. To request a ballot be mailed to you at home please visit the MyVote website (https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/) using google chrome as your web browser. You may be required to submit photo identification with your application. Please visit the Bring it to the Ballot (https://bringit.wi.gov/) website for information on photo identification. The deadline for requesting a ballot by mail is 5:00 p.m. on April 2, 2020.

Registering to Vote
You can also register to vote online through the MyVote website. To register to vote online, your address on your driver’s license or identification card must be current. You can change your address online with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Please allow 24 hours after you change your address with the Department of Transportation before registering to vote online. You can also print your application from this site and mail it to the clerk’s office. Proof of residence is required with your mailed application. The deadline to register to vote online or by mail is March 18, 2020. After this date, you must appear in person. More Information
The recommendation of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services is if you traveled to a country with a level 3 travel health notice for COVID-19, you will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days after returning to Wisconsin. If you have a fever, cough, and shortness of breath, seek medical attention and stay home. This means do not go to school, work, enter public buildings, or attend large gatherings. Please See the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ website (Self-Quarantine and Self-Monitoring Guidance section) for more details on self-quarantining.

Prevent the spread - wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, cover your coughs and sneezes, and stay home when you are ill.

Animal Licensing

It's that time of year again to license your pets. Licensing your animals is easy and can be completed from the comforts of your own home! Animal licenses need to be renewed through PetData by March 31, 2020. A $5.00 late fee will be issued for any renewals after that date. A license is required for all dogs and cats over 5 months of age. Proof of rabies vaccination from your veterinarian and spayed/neutered information must be provided.

Creative Wall at the Hall with Kindermusik®/Musical Pathways Foundation

Kindermusik® is a developmental music program which through joyful music-making between the parent, child and teacher seeks to promote cognitive, physical, language, social, emotional and musical development in young children. Each class, geared toward your child’s developmental stage, is taught by a trained and licensed Kindermusik® teacher who is passionate about transforming the lives of children through musical learning."

Village Request for Proposal for Reuse/Redevelopment of Village Hall

The Village of Waunakee released a Request for Proposal soliciting proposals for the re-use or redevelopment of property located at 500 West Main Street in Waunakee. The property is currently home to the Waunakee Village Hall. The Village is considering the relocation of Village Hall to the former South Street library building, which is currently vacant. Funds generated from the sale of the property would be used to offset the cost of the renovation and relocation. Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors has been hired to assist with the RFP process.
