New Waunakee Public Library Opens Its Doors

Over a decade of planning and hard work by countless community members and area leaders has resulted in a brand-new, state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot public library in the Village of Waunakee. We are proud to invite you to the ribbon cutting and grand opening for the new Waunakee Public Library on Thursday, August 1 at 2:00 PM.

The new library, located at 201 North Madison Street, transforms a previously blighted and contaminated alloy foundry property into a community amenity and gathering place. The Village of Waunakee worked closely with national, state, and county government units to purchase the former Waunakee Alloy property, clean up the contaminated site, and build a unique "library in a park" that takes advantage of the site's scenic location on Six Mile Creek and close connection to downtown.

The new library building features much more space for visitors to browse, read, and gather with family, friends and neighbors. The building features a Community Hall for large gatherings and events, four additional meeting rooms, nine study rooms, and plentiful public areas to read, sit, work, and play. Waunakee’s past is given recognition through “History Hall.” A new trail connection along Six Mile Creek brings front-and-center the physical beauty of the community. Artwork crafted by local artists adorns the walls. …and so much more!

Please join us on August 1 to celebrate. Tours will be given during an open house which follows the brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:00 PM. The Open House will run until 6:00 PM.

Village Board Agenda Supplement for July 15, 2019 Meeting (Trial Period)

The Village is preparing a "Supplement to Agenda" prior to every Village Board Meeting. We are doing this on a trial period to see how well it is received by the public.

Here is a link to the supplement for the July 15, 2019 meeting:

Supplement

This is an unofficial version of the agenda in which the Village Administrator adds some summary and straight forward commentary on the agenda items to be considered during the upcoming meeting. The purpose is to help citizens better understand the agenda items and action requests that are before the Board. You might consider it a succinct summary of the memos and attachments included in the full meeting packet. We are asking for feedback on this new agenda supplement. Please reach out to Village Administrator Todd Schmidt with your feedback. 608-850-2182 or administrator@waunakee.com.

This will be tried for a couple of months before considering whether to continue, adjust or discontinue, so your feedback is important.

Terrace Trees

Terrace trees are the trees that are located between the sidewalk and curb in front of your property. These trees are typically installed by the developer when the subdivision is created. It is the homeowners responsibility to maintain these trees. The Village will, from time to time, trim any trees that encroach upon the street Right-of-way. Once a tree has died, the Village will remove the tree and grind out the stump. It is then the homeowners choice to leave the space empty, or to replant a replacement tree at their expense. The homeowner will need to fill out a Forestry Permit and submit it to the Village for approval. Included with the permit is a list of approved as well as prohibited terrace trees along with some guidelines for placement. Any questions, please contact Jim Madden at (608) 850-8500.
