Heritage Hills Blasting

The contractor for the Heritage Hills subdivision, at the corner of North Division Street and STH 19/113, will be blasting (one blast) between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021.

There will be three air horn signals sounded one minute prior to each blast followed by one prolonged air horn signal after each blast is deemed all clear. On average each blast duration is 500 milliseconds, equivalent to half of a second.

Ground vibration and air blast will be measured by Vibra-Tech with three permanent seismographs located on the West and North side of the subdivision property. All drilling and blasting operations will be conducted in accordance with:
  • The Village of Waunakee regulations and permit requirements
  • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms – 27 CFR 181
  • MSHA 30 CFR Part 56 Safety and Health Standards
  • MSHA 30 – Subchapter H – Education and Training
  • Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services SPS 307.43

Community Learning Project


As part of the ongoing efforts to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in our community, the Village of Waunakee is very excited to partner with the Waunakee Community School District and Waunakee Neighborhood Connection to offer a free Community Learning Project to engage the community in constructive discussion.

Be Active Wisconsin - Community Fitness Challenge

Waunakee are you ready to be named the "Fittest Community" in Wisconsin? Join us in competing against 30 other communities from all over the state for the title and trophy!

Cities and Villages across Wisconsin are hosting the first ever Community Fitness Challenge! The “Be Active Wisconsin” Community Challenge invites all community members to participate in a virtual challenge to promote active lifestyles, connect people to the outdoors by encouraging use of our parks/trail systems, and engage Wisconsin communities in a friendly competition! All active minutes count (not just running/walking), so let’s get moving Waunakee!

Online Registration is now open! Track your physical activity from March 1-31. $10/person for residents and $15/person for Non-Village of Waunakee residents. Everyone that registers will get a t-shirt (It’s the same shirt for every participating community – how cool is that?).

All participants will have access to a Google Form where you will enter your minutes for each week by Monday morning at 10am. While there is a personal goal of 200 minutes a week to help motivate and to give you a goal to strive for, there are no requirements and no awards given for personal goals so that you can customize it based on your needs.

Night Hike with the Snow Moon

The Snow Moon or Hunger Moon will be shining bright and full on the evening of February 27th. Join us to walk the prairie trails during this evening and learn a little about what other cultures call this moon, what planets are visible at this time of year, and practice using senses other than your sight to navigate the night. Limited lighting along the trail will be provided.

Wear warm layers and sturdy winter boots. Visitors are welcome to bring their own snowshoes.

Free. Family-friendly. Donations appreciated. Registration required.

Animal Licensing

It's that time of year again to license your pets. Licensing your animals is easy and can be completed from the comforts of your own home! Animal licenses need to be renewed through PetData by March 31, 2021. A $5.00 late fee will be issued for any renewals after that date. A license is required for all dogs and cats over 5 months of age. Proof of rabies vaccination from your veterinarian and spayed/neutered information must be provided.

Candlelight Hike Postponed

Due to the cold temperatures forecasted for this weekend, the Candlelight Hike originally scheduled for February 13 has been postponed to February 20.

The Candlelight Hike is a night hike held at Castle Creek Conservancy (900 S. Division St.) in Waunakee. Due to Dane County Public Health guidelines, we are only allowed to have 50 participants on site at a time. If you would like to attend, please sign up for your half hour time slot at the link below. All adults and children must sign up. This is a FREE event.

Even though the event is outdoors, we request all participants wear face coverings. Please keep a 6' or more distance from other groups in attendance. No cross country skis will be allowed on the trails. Snowshoes are allowed, but not provided.

COVID-19 Vaccine Virtual Town Hall

Public Health Madison & Dane County will be hosting a virtual town hall and Q&A on vaccines on Thursday, February 11, 2021. The event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend. The event will be held on Zoom and participants can register here to receive the Zoom link to attend. The event will be limited to 500 people on a first come, first serve basis.

In-Person Absentee Voting

In-person absentee voting and in-person registration has begun by appointment at Village Hall (500 W Main Street) for the February 16, 2021 Statewide Primary Election. Please call 608-850-8500 and dial 0 to schedule an appointment. A sample ballot is attached to this post for you as an overview of the contest on the ballot for this election. 

Voting and registration will take place by appointment during regular business hours (Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:15 PM, Friday 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon). In-person absentee and registration ends at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021. Please note that due to COVID-19 and Dane County Public Health orders, we also may need to limit the number of people in our building at one time to ensure proper social distancing and safety.
