PBS Documentary - Caring for Mom and Dad

Waunakee Senior Center
333 South Madison Street
Wednesday, June 24, 2015
5:30 PM

Americans are living longer than ever before. Seventy-five million baby boomers are entering their retirement years at a rate of 10,000 a day. The United States is not prepared for this unprecedented demographic shift and the question we're all facing is who will care for this aging population when they can no longer care for themselves?

Caring for Mom and Dad offers an intimate look at the issues facing family caregivers who are out on the front lines struggling to balance work, families, and caring for their parents. Families from around the country share their stories as the film examines the physical, emotional, and financial trade offs facing working caregivers and their employers. The film also highlights innovative ideas and community-based programs that are supporting family caregivers by asking "How can America adapt to this changing reality?'

RSVP appreciated by calling 849-8385, but not required.

Annual Street Sealing

It is time once again for the Annual Street Maintenance Program. The Village Board has awarded the annual “Chip Seal” project to Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, LLC, from Waunakee, Wisconsin. They will be sealing the selected streets throughout the Village beginning the week of June 22. The streets that will be affected are as follows:

Ganser Drive – Parkside Drive to Woodland Drive
Capital View Court
Blue Ridge Trail – Tierney Drive to Bellewood Drive
Warrior Court
North Ridge Drive – Madison Street to Division Street
North Division Street – North Ridge Drive to Lexington Drive
Badger Lane - Division Street to Skyview Drive
Skyview Drive – Madison Street to Dead End
Parkside Drive – Pasadena Drive to Dead End

During the chip sealing operation, the selected streets will have limited access to all traffic (including bicycles and pedestrians), and driveway access for a couple of hours to allow for the chip seal application. The streets will be open to traffic as soon as the chip seal operation is complete. However, a “NO PARKING” restriction will be in effect until the streets have been swept (approximately 24-48 hours after the sealing). No Parking signs will be posted in advance of work.

If you have any questions concerning the slurry sealing operation, please contact Bill Frederick, Village of Waunakee, Streets Superintendent at (608) 849-5892.

Pay Attention to Who is Knocking on Your Door

It’s the time of year when you may get a knock on your door from someone who is trying to sell you a product or service. People attempting to engage in direct sales within the Village without being registered for that purpose is unlawful. Waunakee Code Sec. 22-61 So, if someone comes to your door trying to sell you something either on the spot or by having someone follow-up the visit with a phone call to initiate a sale, the person needs a Transient Merchant License issued by the Village of Waunakee. Please ask to view the license if you have questions about the visit. If the person cannot present a copy of the license, please contact the Village Clerk’s office at 608-850-2827 or the Waunakee Police Department at 608-849-4573 to report the activity.
