This could help to reduce stress, mitigate the effects of physical and psychological disease and cultivate wellness. Let Scott Andersen, director of Mindful Connections, LLC, help you enjoy the opportunity to explore formal and informal mindful awareness practice that include the Mindful Check In, Mindful Movement and the Body Scan. He will also touch on summaries of the most significant scientific research that has been published over the last thirty years documenting the benefits of mindfulness.

Archeology Event in the Town of Westport

Date: Saturday, May 10
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Place: Site of the 1853 Ella Wheeler Wilcox Home (Easy Street between Highway I and River Road)

The Town of Westport, in conjunction with Dane County, will be hosting a day of public archeology. Archeologist Phil Salkin and staff will be leading the public in an archeological dig at the site of the 1853 Ella Wheeler Wilcox home. Ella Wheeler Wilcox was a poetess in the late 1800s and early 1900s who wrote the lines "Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone."

Waunakee Neighborhood Connection is Moving!

The Waunakee Neighborhood Connection is moving this Saturday (April 26th) and it's all hands on deck! Anyone willing to donate your time or anyone with access to a trailer or truck, it would be greatly appreciated. Please plan to meet at the "former location" (1001 Arboretum Drive) at 1:00 p.m. to load up and move to the new location at 215 South Century Avenue.

Kilkenny Farms Blasting

Blasting will begin in Kilkenny Farms beginning in May. Kilkenny Farms is located on Woodland Drive and County Trunk Highway Q. The Village has hired an independent expert to monitor the site. They have placed seismometers at several locations surrounding the site and are reporting to the Village. Sara Cotton Butler, a registered Thai therapist RTT will cultivate your connection with movement. Learn new ways to move your body to ease your mind. In this session we will experience partner stretches and techniques to improve our ability to relax. This is a sophisticated approach to relieve the tight grip of accumulated stress and tension. Thai yoga massage is simple, wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes and bring a mat if you have one. As Sara likes to point out, gravity is the real equipment.

Tri 4 Schools Kids Triathlon

The Village Center is excited to be partnering with the Waunakee Aquatic Center and Tri 4 Schools to offer the third annual youth triathlon this spring. It will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Waunakee Aquatic Center and High School. Every dollar raised for this event will be distributed to the schools of our participants to fund athletic and nutrition programs, equipment, and other resources to teach kids about making healthy choices.

We will need over 100 volunteers to make this event a success. If you are interested in helping, please call the Village Center at 850-5992. We are also in need of sponsors for the event, with many different levels available. If you are interested in this sponsorship please contact us.

The Village of Waunakee and the Waunakee Area Chamber of Commerce would like to invite the public to join in on the first Together Waunakee: Paving the Way event - Rock'n Ribs BBQ Festival! 

This event will take place at Reeve Park behind the historic Depot Station. Fun for the whole family begins from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. as Art Party Place will have crafts and activities for the kids. We will have a bouncy house and Erin Crowley from Musical Memories will DJ. The band Retro Specz will play in the beer garden from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and we’ll have plenty of food from Blowin’ Smoke Barbeque. Nominal fees for all crafts, drinks and food. Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week April 21-25, 2014

Tornado and Severe Awareness Week (April 21-25, 2014) is designed to remind people of the dangers associated with tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding and hail and to encourage citizens to take protective safety measures such as developing a personal preparedness plan and putting together a disaster supply kit. Knowing what to expect and the steps to take in an emergency is the key to protecting yourself and your family.

Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes annually. In 2013, 16 tornadoes touched down in Wisconsin including six during the night of August 6-7 when an EF2, hit near New London in Waupaca and Outagamie counties injuring two residents. The peak tornado season in Wisconsin is April to August, but tornadoes can occur any time of the year. On Thursday, April 24, 2014, a statewide tornado drill is planned. Associated Appraisal Consultants, Inc. in the Village

The Village contracts with Associated Appraisal Consultants to assess real estate and personal property in the Village. Staff from Associated Appraisal will be in the Village of Waunakee completing inside and outside inspections until mid-June.

All real estate and personal property in the Village of Waunakee is assessed annually. The purpose of an assessment is to assure that all property in the Village is valued fairly and equitably for taxing purposes. In the event that you are not home when they visit your property, they will leave contact information on a red card. If you have any questions, please contact the Village of Waunakee Clerk's Department at 608-850-8500.

Creative Wall at the Hall with Elizabeth Ann Teeter

Do you enjoy painting?  Have you ever wanted to learn more about it?  Do you want to support the local initiative promoting creativity and innovation in Waunakee?  If the answer to any of these questions is yes, please make plans to stop in at the Village Hall to learn more! While you're enjoying your dessert and coffee, you'll have the chance to meet with Elizabeth Ann Teeter, local artist, and learn a bit about her paintings.
 

Elizabeth is intrigued with patterns and designs and feels each painting is an adventure! She will also share information on the many places her work has been exhibited including offices and art shows in both the United States and Canada. Creative Wall at the Hall is an opportunity for local artists from the Waunakee area to share their work by displaying it at Village Hall.  Exhibitions will be on display for two months at a time, for a total of six exhibits per year.

Learn About Square Foot Gardening

Marily Sallee a certified master gardener volunteer with Dane County Extension, will teach you how to garden using the square-foot method, "more productivity in less space". You will find out the theory behind square foot gardening, appropriate bed-building materials, planting media, watering, fertilizing, crop spacing and what plants work best for square foot gardening. You will also hear about using crop rotation and tips for preventing disease and insect problems. This program is brought to you by the Friends of Waunakee Public Library.

Spring Leaf Collection

Spring leaf collection will begin the week of April 14 - 18, 2014 and the week of April 21 - 28, 2014, weather permitting. Please remember to keep the brush and leaves separate from each other. Leaves must be on the terrace in front of your house, not in the road. If you would like to haul your own leaves and brush, you may take them out to the compost site on Highway Q south of the Village just past Highway K. Back by popular demand is the musical entertainers "Wisconsin Old Time Fiddlers".  You will hear "old time" tunes like Golden Slippers, Westphalia Waltz, Red Wing, Raggedy Ann, Last Fiddlers Waltz and a occasional Turkey in the Straw, two-steps, schottisches and waltzes. Come join the fun, starting with a delicious lunch at 11:30 AM. Following lunch we will sit back enjoy as the fiddlers entertain us. Please make your lunch reservation no later than 2:00 PM, the day before. Space is limited, for reservation call (608) 849-8385. A donation is requested for the meal.
