Workshops on Wellness

Waunakee Village Center
333 South Madison Street
May 11, 2016
7:00 - 8:00 PM

As we age, the prospect of some difficulty hearing and understanding speech becomes very real. There are many causes of hearing loss, but the long term exposure to noise and aging stand out as two of the most common. Ted Tweed will discuss the way we hear, how the ear works, what can go wrong and what you can do about it, including a discussion of hearing aid candidacy and types of hearing aids. Why hearing loss contributes to some very funny communication situations will be apparent. He will answer the questions: "Why do I have trouble understanding you when I can still hear you?"

Hearing screenings will be available beginning at 5:30 PM and will be carried out by graduate students from the UW Madison Student Academy of Audiology. You can call the Village Center to schedule an appointment at 850-5992.

Drug Take Back Day

Waunakee Police Department
205 N. Klein Drive
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
608-849-4523

The Waunakee Police Department in conjunction with the Waunakee Community Cares Coalition is promoting the disposal of unwanted prescription painkillers and other medications. Whenever possible, take your unused prescription drugs to a collection program or event – the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s DRUG TAKE BACK Days happen, at minimum, in the spring and fall of each year. You may safely dispose of controlled and uncontrolled substances, over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, creams, non-aerosol sprays, vials, and pet medications at these events.

If your prescriptions contain narcotics or other controlled substances, contact your local police department to find out if the police will accept them. Some police departments will accept non-controlled substances too, but you should be sure exactly what yours will accept before dropping off items.

Rotary Comprehensive Plan Viewing April 21, 2016

The Village of Waunakee and the Town of Westport are seeking your input as we jointly update our Comprehensive Plan and Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. These plans are important documents for charting our future as mature and vibrant communities. Staff use these plans to guide decision making of the elected body and related committees, apply for federal and state grants, and advise potential developers. These plans are also used when making annual budgeting decisions and prioritizing various public projects. But to be clear, these plans do not and should not reflect the interests of just our elected officials and staff. What is most important, is that these plans reflect the desires and hopes of all of the community stakeholders, citizens, taxpayers, and business owners.

Interested in learning more about the upcoming Comprehensive Plan Update?
The Village of Waunakee is pleased to be broadcasting via Periscope, Village Administrator Todd Schmitt and Town of Westport Administrator Tom Wilson as they present to the Waunakee Rotary Club on the Comprehensive Plan Update.
