Horrible Holiday Sweater Celebration

Saturday, November 28 - Tuesday, December 1

Though we can’t gather in person this year for Waunakee Neighborhood Connection’s (WNC) annual Horrible Holiday Sweater Shuffle 5K fun run, you can still pull out those ugly sweaters and have a great time to help those in our community who are experiencing financial insecurity. Starting this Saturday, November 28th, through Tuesday, December 1st (Giving Tuesday).

WNC will be holding the Horrible Holiday Sweater Celebration, a virtual online event that will raise funds to support vital programs that are currently serving more than 600 of our Waunakee neighbors.

Cards for Health Care Heroes Campaign

Giving Thanks: Dane County Calls on Community to Join "Cards for Health Care Heroes" Campaign

Families and kids across Dane County are encouraged to color, draw, and write notes of thanks and encouragement to health care workers this Thanksgiving holiday, as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to worsen. Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today "Cards for Health Care Heroes," an effort to recognize the tireless and challenging work that thousands of doctors, nurses, specialists, emergency services responders and providers are doing in this community every hour of every day.

"This Thanksgiving, I'm hopeful families will give some thought to what they would say to a doctor or a nurse if they could, and then put those words, colors, and pictures of kindness to paper," Parisi said. "We are a deeply caring community and countless folks have asked me in recent weeks what they can do to help in the midst of this incredibly difficult time. Together, let's do a communitywide simple act of kindness," he added.

Parisi's announcement of "Cards for Health Care Heroes" comes in the wake of an open letter to Wisconsin authored by UW Health that was published on Sunday.

Families can send in their cards by mail to:

Dane County
Room 421
210 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd
Madison, WI 53703

Participants can also submit their cards electronically at https://exec.countyofdane.com/CardsForHeroes

Dane County will collect the cards and distribute them to health care providers in early December.

"This has been a most challenging year, and all of us have sacrificed greatly," Parisi said. "Through it all we have much to be thankful for, including people who get up every day to care for others. To our doctors, nurses, and all medical providers - we are incredibly grateful for you. We hear you. We know you are hurting. We know that we all can do things to help you get through what until now was unthinkable. First and foremost, we want to say thank you."

Final Leaf Pick-Up November 30

Fall leaf collection is currently underway and will end on November 30. Please remember to keep the branches and leaves separate from each other. Both items must be on the terrace in front of your house, not in the road. There will be no leaf pick-up in the alleys and leaves in plastic bags must be removed from the bags before pick-up. Leaves may also be taken to the compost site on County Trunk Highway Q south of the Village.

Heritage Hills Blasting

The contractor for the Heritage Hills subdivision, at the corner of North Division Street and STH 19/113, will be blasting between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

There will be three air horn signals sounded one minute prior to each blast followed by one prolonged air horn signal after each blast is deemed all clear.  On average each blast duration is 500 milliseconds, equivalent to half of a second.

Ground vibration and air blast will be measured by Vibra-Tech with three permanent seismographs located on the West and North side of the subdivision property.  All drilling and blasting operations will be conducted in accordance with:

The Clerk’s Department would like to send our heartfelt thanks to the over 75 individuals who helped make the November 3 Election run smoothly and successfully. Without these poll workers, volunteers, and Village staff members we would not have been able to administer this election! If you know someone who worked or volunteered at the Waunakee polls on Tuesday, please take a minute to thank them for their hard work and dedication!
