Heritage Fest 2011

An afternoon of old-fashioned fun at Heritage Fest 2011 is planned at Schumacher Farm Park in Waunkaee on Sunday, September 18 from 1-4:00 PM. Admission is free with pie, apple crisp, cookies and sweet corn available for purchase.

Schumacher Farm Park is located at 5682 Highway 19 on the western edge of Waunakee. The park is an 100 acre open-air museum and conservancy dedicated to preserving old-time rural farm ways of the 1920's and 1930's. It is run by the Friends of Schumacher Farm Park in cooperation with Dane County Parks and the Marcella Pendall Schumacher Trust.

Magazine Sales Scam

Over the past two days, the Middleton Police Department has received several reports of people trying to sell magazines door to door at several locations throughout the city and various locations in the Middleton area. This appears to be a scam and their tactic is to tell people they are raising money for an American Legion Baseball team and that some money goes to them and some to magazine subscriptions to overseas troops.

They provide a receipt which says Absolute Marketing in Georgia with a phone number of (770) 831-7722. The Better Business Bureau in Georgia has had hundreds of complaints of scams affiliated with this business and phone number and this appears to be a nation-wide issue.

If you are contacted by a door-to-door sales person, verify that they have a sellers permit and if they don't, we recommend not doing business with them. All door-to-door sellers are required by the Village of Waunakee to have a Transient Merchant License. Do report any suspicious activity to the Waunakee Police by calling (608) 849-4523.

September 11 - Waunakee Remembers

The Friends of Waunakee Performing Arts (FWPA) will sponsor an event called "Waunakee Remembers" commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. It will be held on Sunday, September 11 at 2:00 PM in the High School Performing Arts Center. This event will feature music by the Waunakee Community Band and a local combined choir, as well as readings by drama students and a tribute to our local fire department, police department, EMS, VFW and American Legion Post 360. The free event is scheduled to last approximately one hour. Refreshments will be served.

Support WNC Diaper & Laundry Detergent Drive

Inspire 4 Fitness, LLC is teaming up with Waunakee Neighborhood Connection to promote healthy living through working out. Join us on Saturday, September 10th from 7:45-8:30 at Ripp Park -Waunakee. All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to join. Registration begins at 7:30 AM (Ripp Park Shelter).

There is no need to bring a lot of equipment except for a water bottle, 10 lbs.+ weights (optional) and a yoga mat (optional). Activities include strength, agility, and core stations. Hellenbrand Water will be giving each participant a resuable water bottle!

We will be accepting donations of diapers and laundry detergent as well as cash donations ($10 recommended per person) for WNC to help support local families in need.

Last Chance to Fill the Bus at Pizza Hut

The last stop for WNC's and Waunakee School's Fill the Bus Campaign, partnering with the Waunakee Police Department, Lamer's Bus Company, Merffert Oil Company, M&I Bank, Wipperfurth's Piggly Wiggly, Pizza Hut, and Walgreen's is this week at Pizza Hut. The bus will be in the Pizza Hut parking lot from August 17th-24th. To show their appreciation of your donation, Pizza Hut will enter your name into a drawing for pizza certificates! If you can't make the bus stop at Pizza Hut, you can also drop off supplies at the WNC Store, Waunakee Police Station, Walgreen's and Piggly Wiggly.
