Post Construction Stop Signs

At the beginning of the 2014 Main Street Construction, several new stop signs were installed in the following locations:

N. Century Ave (STH 113) at Sunset Ln
S. Division St at Marshall Dr
S. Century Ave (CTH Q) at Fifth St
Woodland Dr at Division St
West St at Second St

While these stop signs were considered temporary when installed, we have found that in a couple cases they would best remain as four way stops going forward. The stop signs that will remain in place are located at the following locations:

Woodland Dr at Division St
West St at Second St

The stop signs that will be removed were located in the following locations:

N. Century Ave (STH 113) at Sunset Ln
S. Division St at Marshall Dr
S. Century Ave (CTH Q) at Fifth St

New signage at the following locations will indicate "Caution - Cross Traffic Does Not Stop":

Fifth St
Sunset Ln
Marshall Dr

The signage changes will take place on Friday, September 19. Village staff will closely observe the performance of these intersections and may consider other changes if warranted.

All makes, models and years car show. This sixth annual event is open to car enthusiasts entering their vehicle in the show and community members simply interested in checking out all of the top-notch entries. Cars can be registered on site beginning at 8:00 AM for a fee of $10.00. There is no fee for spectators, but donations for the local food pantry are encouraged for all participants. Cars will be judged by participants choice and awards will be presented at 3:00 PM. There will be a DJ, concessions and a bounce house for the kids to make the day even more fun.

Water Accumulation at the Roundabout

At the Village Hall, we have received several questions addressing water accumulation at the roundabout. The final surface of asphalt is not yet installed in the roundabout area; however, it is installed on most of the remainder of the project area. What is visible now is not final grade and water accumulation will not occur when the project is complete.

At this time, we are still discouraging people from driving through the area unless they have a local destination (no thru traffic). We very much appreciate your patience as we work through the final weeks of the 2014 Main Street Construction.

Hovde Properties Redevelopment Underway in Downtown Waunakee

Madison-based developer Hovde Properties and the Village of Waunakee have come to terms on a development agreement and demolition and construction will commence immediately on the former Koltes Lumber site in Downtown Waunakee. The redevelopment will include premier high quality retail space on the first floor and office space on the second floor. The original building, built in the late 1800s, will remain and the new construction will maintain the ambiance of downtown Main Street.

“We are excited to be redeveloping this important site in downtown Waunakee. This property and original building have great history and we plan to restore the existing facade and use similar design elements on the new construction, all of which celebrate Main Street’s past” says Mike Slavish, President of Hovde Properties. “Village staff and elected officials have been great to work with and we look forward to being an important part of the community.”

This project complements an array of existing Main Street businesses along with a number of other new projects. Village President John Laubmeier said, "The Village Board is happy to see this project as another step in Waunakee’s downtown renewal. In particular, it is wonderful to see that the facade of the new structure pays homage to the historical roots of this site in our community."

When complete, the project is expected to offer nearly 24,000 square feet of retail space, 11,000 square feet of office space, and 3,600 square feet of rooftop space on the northwest corner. Interest in the project has been very strong and Hovde anticipates creating a vibrant mix of retailers and office users both big and small.

Site clearing is already in process and groundbreaking will begin in September. Hovde Properties, along with Krupp General Contractors and Angus Young Associates, expect to complete the project by Summer 2015.

Village Administrator / Economic Development Director Todd Schmidt says that public improvements in the downtown area dovetail nicely with the private investment that is taking place. According to Schmidt, “We are eager for completion of our summer-long Main Street construction project. Along with a new road surface, we will have safer pedestrian crossings, decorative street lights, intersection improvements, bricked terraces, and street benches.” The roadway is expected to re-open on September 19th.

Coats for Kids will be collected at the Waunakee Warrior Varsity Football game vs. Sauk Prairie on Friday, September 5th. Bring your new and gently used fall and winter coats of any size.
