Committee Vacancies
The Village is accepting applications for vacancies to several committees. The committees that have openings are the Board of Appeals or the Board of Review as an alternate, or to the Police Commission. Applications are accepted at any time and kept on file in the event of a vacancy or resignation. If you have questions, please contact the Village Clerk or the Village Administrator by calling 608-850-8500.

Pet Licenses are Now Overdue
It shall be unlawful for any person in the village to own, harbor or keep any dog or cat of more than five months of age after April 1 of the license year without complying with the sections of this chapter relating to the listing, licensing and tagging of the dog or cat. Waunakee Code Sec. 14-41
The Village of Waunakee is now using an online animal licensing program, PetData. Animal licenses are no longer issued at any Village of Waunakee location. All licenses issued after March 31 of the licensing year are assessed a $5.00 per license late fee. Proof of rabies vaccination from your veterinarian stating the manufacturer name, serial number of the vaccine, expiration date of the vaccination, and spay/neuter information must be provided to PetData before a license can be issued.

Property Assessments
It’s that time of year again when property assessments are determined. If you assessment has changed from last year, you should be receiving a notice by mail sent by the Village’s Assessor, Associated Appraisal Consultants. Notices are expected to be mailed by Friday, May 29, 2015.
Open Book
Open Book is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM, at the Village Hall, 500 W. Main Street. You are encouraged to call the Village's Assessor, Associated Appraisal Consultants, at 1-800-721-4157, to schedule an appointment to meet with the assessor. Open Book is a casual opportunity to speak with the Assessor and ask questions about your property assessment.

If you're anticipating a visit to Village Hall, entrance to the building may be obstructed and parking is limited. Be careful in negotiating the area if you need to visit our offices. Work is underway and expected to continue through next week.

The Waunakee Police Department will be hosting its annual Bike Rodeo. The Bike Rodeo is designed to promote safe riding habits and skills needed for young bike riders, ages 5-12. Free helmet fitting, free bike licensing and a bike technician will be on hand to help identify mechanical issues of the kid's bike. An activities checklist will be provided and if completed all participants will receive a prize! Prize tickets will be drawn after the event and prizes delivered to the child's school. No need to register or sign up. This is a free event, just show up and enjoy!

Memorial Day Ceremonies and Services
American Legion Post 360 will conduct Memorial Day
ceremonies for departed veterans the morning of May 25 at the following times and cemeteries: 8:00 AM, Union Cemetery in Vienna (off of
Highway 113); 8:20 AM, Kolman Cemetery (W. Woodland Drive); 8:40 AM, Kingsley
Cemetery (Kingsley Road); 9:00 AM, St. John's Cemetery; 9:20 AM, St. Mary of the
Lake Cemetery. The annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30 AM from Fire Station parking lot and marching down Main Street to the Veteran's Memorial in Village Park for
Memorial Day ceremonies beginning at 11:00 AM. A potluck will be hosted by the
post following Memorial Day Services in the park. In case of rainy weather, the
Memorial Day ceremonies will be held in the lower level of the post.

Starting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden

Arthur De Smet, Master Gardener, Volunteer, and Plant Health Advisor from Dane County-UW Extension will provide advice on how to establish and maintain a perennial garden. Key elements for a successful garden are matching the plants with soil, correct watering practices, and amount of garden sun. Considering these elements is the basis for the adage: "Right plant, Right place." The steps in laying out a garden will be presented along with a discussion of the soil requirements of pH, nutrients, and organic material. The importance of mulching and plant hardiness ratings will be discussed along with suggestions on how to select sun loving, shade tolerant and drought tolerant plants. The goal will be to learn how to have your plants "thrive and not just survive."

The Waunakee Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 1st Annual SpringFest with live music, food and kids activities. Enjoy live music from the Waunakee Community Band 2:30 PM-3:30 PM, followed by headline band, The Red Hot Horn Dawgs 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. Festival food featuring Blowin' Smoke BBQ, Papa Murphy's Pizza, and Country Kettle Corn, cheese curds, and funnel cake.
