Starting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden

Waunakee Public Library

Tuesday May 12, 2015
7:00 PM-9:00 PM

Arthur De Smet, Master Gardener, Volunteer, and Plant Health Advisor from Dane County-UW Extension will provide advice on how to establish and maintain a perennial garden. Key elements for a successful garden are matching the plants with soil, correct watering practices, and amount of garden sun. Considering these elements is the basis for the adage: "Right plant, Right place." The steps in laying out a garden will be presented along with a discussion of the soil requirements of pH, nutrients, and organic material. The importance of mulching and plant hardiness ratings will be discussed along with suggestions on how to select sun loving, shade tolerant and drought tolerant plants. The goal will be to learn how to have your plants "thrive and not just survive."
