Wauktoberfest: Waunakee's 7th Annual German Celebration September 23-25th!

Join Waunakee Community Foundation, Waunakee Rotary, Waunakee/Westport Lions Club, and  Knights of Columbus Council 6371  for Waunakee's Annual Wauktoberfest Celebration at Endres Manufacturing (802 S. Century Avenue Waunakee) from September 23-25th for Food! Fun! Music! and Entertainment all weekend long!   Check out the Waunktoberfest website for a list of times and events for this fun filled weekend.  *All proceeds from the event are donated to local charities.

Swing Crew Friday night 6:30-8:30 pm and inflatables for the kids. 

Beer Tasting and Blessing of the beer 2-6 p.m. on Saturday.  Inflatables, puppets, pumpkin decorating, kraut eating contest, Frau Carry, keg race, Bob Klinger Band, Texas Hold'em, and more. 

Sunday:  German music by Just Too Accordions and Madison Mannerchor.  Inflatables, pumpkins, Dachshund Dash, biathlon for kids, Euchre, vendors, and lots more!

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: Public Meetings for Future Urban Development Area (FUDA) Planning

The City of Middleton, Village of Waunakee, the Town of Wesport, and the Town of Springfield will hold a series of public meetings beginning September 19, 2011 and ending October 25, 2011.  The meetings are scheduled to convene 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at numerous locations.

Phase 1: A visual survey for residents to express values for how future development could look.

• Sept. 19 Springfield Town Hall, 6157 Co. Hwy P (Springfield Corners)
• Sept. 26 Middleton City Hall, 7425 Hubbard Ave.
• Oct. 4 Waunakee High School (301 Community Drive)

Phase 2: Residents help create detailed development scenarios to guide future growth.

• Oct. 10 Middleton City Hall, 7426 Hubbard Ave.
• Oct. 17 Springfield Town Hall, 6157 Co. Hwy P (Springfield Corners)
• Oct. 25 Waunakee High School (301 Community Drive)

The City of Middleton, Village of Waunakee, the Town of Westport and the Town of Springfield are working together to create a future growth plan that will guide development over the next 25 years as these communities change and grow.  The public is invited to attend and participate in meetings that will include an introduction to FUDA (Future Urban Development Area) planning and the role of community values, a visual community survey and discussion, and the creation of future development scenarios.  Residents will be asked to give their input about the appearance, character, and location of future development in the area.

Sept. 11th Event: Waunakee Remembers

The Friends of Waunakee Performing Arts (FWPA) will sponsor an event called "Waunakee Remembers" commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. It will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the High School Performing Arts Center. This event will feature music by the Waunakee Community Band and a local combined choir, as well as readings by drama students and a tribute to our local fire department, police department, EMS, VFW and American Legion Post 360. The free event is scheduled to last approximately one hour. Refreshments will be served.

WNC Diaper & Laundry Soap Drive

Join Globe University Massage Therapy students as they raise funds for WNC and enjoy a relaxing chair massage on Thursday, September 15th at Waunakee Village Center.

Costs for a massage are $1.00 per minute (5 minute minimum) or a donation of laundry detergent or diapers. All proceeds will go to the Waunakee Neighborhood Connection.

Waunakee Police Department Newletter September 2011

School's Back in Session
September 1st brings the start of the new school year. With that comes an increase in pedestrial and vehicle traffic in school zones. The time just before and after school can be dangerous for pedestrials and drivers. This is why the speed limit in school zones and at school crossings is 15 mph. Drivers are reminded to slow down and be attentive.

Many intersections immediately surrounding school zones have crossing guards to assist children in crossing the crossing the street; however, not all do. At intersections with crossing guards present, drivers must stop not less than 10 feet from the crossing guard and allow the crossing guard to fully exit the roadway before proceeding through. At intersections where a crossing guard is not present, children and adult pedestrians in crosswalks have the right-of-way. Drivers must stop and allow a pedestrian in a crosswalk to cross the street.

It is also important for parents who will be picking up children to be aware of no parking zones. No parking zones around the schools are marked with "no parking" signs and/or yellow curbing. These zones were created to assist in loading children on buses and allowing for greater visibility and safer traffic flow. Parking in "No Parking" zones can have dangerous consequences.

Waunakee officers increase patrols in school zone during the times children are present. Officers will be enforcing traffic laws in the school zones to ensure the safety of the children and others present.

Waunakee PD Participate in "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over".
Waunakee Emergency Services Citizen's Academy
Waunakee Police, Fire, and EMS are pleased to announce the 2011 Waunakee Emergency Services Citizen's Academy program starting September 7, 2011. Participants will meet on Wednesday evenings 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for 9 consecutive weeks. The Citizen's Academy is a "hands on" program. The goal of the program is to give participants a better understanding of Police, Fire, and EMS duties and responsibilities. During simulations, participatns will be able to assume the role of the Police Officer, Firefighter, and Emergency Medical Technician. Participants will have the opporutnity to drive police cars, learn hands on defense and arrest tactics, take part in simulated deadly force scenarios, use multiple pieces of fire department equipment and learn important life saving techniques. The class is limited to 14 participants. Requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age. Preference will be given to Village of Waunakee residents. Applications due September 2, 2011.
