Due to the overwhelming public response to the restricted hours at the compost site and significant pressure from the Village of Waunakee the Bruce Company has agreed to extend the hours for the compost site on the weekends. As many of you are aware, the change in hours was originally initiated by the Bruce Company because of contractors and others not abiding by the rules for types of materials that are accepted at the site. The Bruce Company indicated they were having issues with residents, but mainly contractors bringing material to the site that is not intended for the compost site. The operation of the compost site is subsidized by the Village of Waunakee , City of Middleton and Shorewood Hills. The subsidy allows for our residents to dump material at the site for no cost. However, contractors are required to pay to dump at the site as well as residents not within our communities.
Starting this weekend, the Bruce Company will be leaving the gate open on the weekends. The site will not be supervised on the weekend, but our hope is that leaving the site restricted during the week we will not have issues. If we do have illegal dumping issues, we may need to further evaluate the access.
