Community Notification Meeting for the Town of Westport

August 14, 2013 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging citizens in the town of Westport, and surrounding areas, to attend a Community Notification meeting regarding the release of Steven J. Howell and Waylon M. Redding.

A core team evaluates and makes decisions on the level of notification to the community for the release of sex offenders under Wisconsin Statutes 301.45 and 301.46. The Core Team will be holding a Community Notification meeting on Wednesday, August 21st at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center, located at 5184 State Highway 19. The Core Team will offer information about the Community Notification Law and the release of Steven Howell and Waylon Redding.

Howell has a conviction in 2004 for Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child, and another conviction in 2005 for the same charge. Redding has two convictions in 1999 for Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. Both men were released from prison earlier this year, and they will be living at the same residence. Their photos will be provided at the meeting, as well as more detailed information on their offenses.

Authorities will also provide citizens with information about protective behaviors and personal safety. Neither of these men is wanted by authorities at this time, and this information is not intended to increase fear, but rather inform the public. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated.
